Leaning Into Jesus

For if the blood of goats and bulls... sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.

Hebrews 9:13-14 (NET)

How do you lean on Jesus? He is not here to bodily hold us up, but He is still with us. He supports and sustains us through the Holy Spirit, who lives in every believer. How does one become a believer? It starts at the cross and continues at the cross as you make your faith journey. At the cross, we first lean into Jesus. He draws out of us every poisonous thought, sinful deed, and crazy disposition we have. He stands in for us as we are the ones who deserve the pain and torment the cross brought to Christ. He gave up everything for us so we could regain all that God created us to be.

Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the whole world. Under the old covenant, a lamb, goat, or bullock became a sacrifice for the sins of the people. The person bringing the sacrifice, even the priests, would lay their hands on the animal, leaning into it, transmitting sins to the innocent animal. The animal killed took the place of the one who brought it to the altar. Jesus has done far more for us. Not only did Christ become sin for us, He exchanged our sin for the righteousness of God. His blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness, giving us His authority to lay hands on others, lean into them, and thus impart God's blessing into their lives. What a privilege to believe in Jesus, to rely on and trust Him in all our ways. We are blessed to be a blessing.

Jesus is the only One who won't let us fall by wrapping His arms around us when we lean into Him. What a precious relationship we have with our Savior, who welcomes our presence whether we glorify Him or let Him down. He always supports us so we can step out in faith to minister to others. He is also there to lift us out of any sin we fall into when we call on His name to deliver us. What a mighty God we serve!
