Break Free From Poverty

…there need be no poor people among you...if only you fully obey the Lord

(Deut. 15: 4-5)”.

Poverty is a curse. If that seems a bit over the top consider the misery in its wake. Children go hungry, people die, crime soars, stress is unmanageable, and homelessness abounds due to its darkness. How can a single mom nurture her children when she’s working two jobs to pay the bills? How can a hungry man think noble thoughts and seek God when all he can think about is food? Poverty is evil because it causes grief and pain. Poverty has many faces. You can have money and yet have impoverished relationships and mind sets.

Becoming a disciple of Christ will change the way you think and live. It will also break the generational curse of poverty in your life. Once you break free from lack, your children will rise above the poverty line. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Proverbs 13:18 reads, “The one who neglects discipline ends up in poverty and shame, but the one who accepts reproof is honored.” Not every Christian is a follower of Christ. Our sin will never separate us from the love of God, but it will prevent us from enjoying his wisdom, which leads us to his blessings.

Personal choices have dire consequences. Addictions of many kinds such as gambling, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and shopping drain people both physically and financially. Sexual immorality leads to unplanned pregnancies. The poverty rate for single-parent families with no husband present is 26.6%. People who are poor need a helping hand. They need a way out of misery rather than someone to pay their way in the midst of their despair. Not everyone will escape poverty but those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Way, their Truth and their Life can!
