Unmet Expectations

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jer. 29:11 (KJV)

Unmet expectations can leave you feeling let down any time you look forward to something and it just doesn’t work out the way you wanted it. If we realize what is going on we can get over it and the sorrow of it will pass. But if we are not conscious of why we are feeling let down, resentment can cloud our judgment and we may become angry and depressed.

Everyone experiences major disappointments both the pauper and the prince alike. There are seasons of joy and sorrow. The untimely death of a loved one, the moral failures of your own life or those most close to you can leave you feeling short-changed from the life you always dreamed of having. The holidays may give rise to unrealistic or idealistic expectations of family and friends that just cannot materialize.

Hope looks forward to the future forbidding what has happened to you to define what can happen for you. People will let you down but people will also lift you up. Do not allow your expectations of what people do or do not do frame your future. Believe that the Lord has thoughts to prosper you and not to harm you. Continue to have faith and trust in His all -consuming love for you. When you doubt His love you doubt His existence because God is love. If you believe that God is and that He rewards all who diligently seek Him He will bring you to an expected end.
