Twins

By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

So you want to be a Christian? Indeed, well perhaps you need to think about that long and hard before you commit to Christ. Jesus makes it clear that if you are going to follow Him, you should sit down and count the cost first. Salvation is a gift of God, but without the surrender of your old self, you cannot receive it. The person Christ created you to be will rise as you put off the old man for the new.

Conflict does not end once you surrender to Christ rather it begins. An internal conflict between your new nature in Christ and your old nature in Adam is evidence that you are born-again by Holy Spirit. The nature you gain in Christ is whole and one of which you are complete. The old man of sin and our new nature in Christ are at odds with one another. The struggle is real, but you win when you submit to the leadership of Holy Spirit.

The old man hates the new man as Esau hated Jacob. Pregnant with twins, Rebekah experienced such turmoil within her she wondered why she had to endure it. The Lord told her she had two nations in her womb and that the older would serve the younger. Esau though older served Jacob. Esau lost His inheritance while Jacob gained it. Our old nature will serve our new nature, as we trust the Lord to show us the path to take and the choices to make.

As our new nature twins with that of Jesus, we have the mind of Christ. When we unite with Him, having His desires and perspectives, twinning is winning! So yes we should expect opposition internally and externally but we should also be of good cheer because as He is so also are we in this world.
