Planting Time

…a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop…. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NLT).

Jesus planted a seed. He died, His loved ones buried Him, but on the third day, He came alive. Look at what that one seed, His life, accomplished; thousands upon thousands of people have received new life in Him. He did not die in vain. He did not give a little part of Himself; He gave all of Himself so that you and I could know Him and be like Him. God, the Father, planted His only begotten son and reaped a family of sons for all generations to come.

The power of the seed is remarkable. Within its small formation, its DNA contains the instructions to bear a bountiful harvest once released from the hand of the person into the ground. Seeds do little for us if we hold them to ourselves. If you need something, seed for it. A seed of faith will produce for you what you do not have now. Give, and God through others will give to you. Give away what you need more of, and you will understand the mystery of the seed. Words are seeds; money is a seed, friendship is a seed, wisdom is a seed, time is a seed, so all that you need give it away and you will have more of it. The increase comes to us when we learn the secret of the seed.

Decide what you will give. Give it with gusto and never out of pressure or obligation. Give it in faith. Once you plant it, don’t go digging it up to see how it’s coming along. Do not try and figure out how it is going to bring the increase just know it will. Jesus is the Lord of the harvest. Our job is to plant the seed and water it with faith and expectation, and in due time God brings the expansion.
