Things We Hide

The LORD’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.

(Proverbs 20:27)

People bury treasures. In the old days of the West robbers on the run from the law frequently hid their plunder with the mind to return to it after eluding justice. Most often their plans to return failed upon capture. The hidden idols we treasure in our hearts captivate to destroy us.

Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” and David said, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” We hide things we treasure. In the day we need it, we know where it is, quietly waiting to help us. God’s word is like a seed buried within our hearts. A treasure, hidden from the eyes of hateful birds, the seed of God grows within our thoughts to rule over us in times of temptation and trial. If we treasure God’s Word in our heart, pondering over its wisdom as our days pass on Earth, He will direct our steps and lead us into abundant life.

Hidden motives propel you into life or death. Little child, keep your self from idols. Lord, shine your light into my heart, exposing any trace of darkness that I may live entirely for you, Amen.
