The Highway Of Holiness

...The Highway of Holiness… It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; … Lions will not lurk along its course, nor any other ferocious beasts. There will be no other dangers. Only the redeemed will walk on it (Isaiah 35:8-9)

When someone says “take the back road it’s safer” you may want to reconsider. In fact, the risk of fatal crashes on back roads is 2.5 times higher per mile traveled than on the highway and interstates. People taking the back roads tend to break the speed limit. They are more likely to be drinking and often are not wearing seatbelts. Driving the back roads will also increase your likelihood of hitting deer or other wild animals.

The Bible speaks of a “highway of holiness” that God gives to the righteous so their journey through life will be safe. If you are moving on this highway, you are a person whose thoughts are higher. Because you think on a higher plane, your ways are higher as well. You are not a lawbreaker, and you can “see down the road” making quality decisions each day. Because you have the Lord as your light, you have a clean life that gives you peace.

You must choose whether you’ll take the highway of holiness or the back road of dust as you travel through this life. The way of the transgressor is hard (Proverbs 13:15), but the path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day (Proverbs 4:18). The back road can get very dark, and some prefer it that way because their actions are sinful. Sin may be pleasurable for the moment but further down the road; pain will meet you.

Take the highway because it is the safest way and there Jesus will guide you.
