Foot and Mouth Disease

Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil. Psalm 141:3 (NIV)

Who are the big mouths of the world? You won’t find them in either the Asian or Nordic people. They value quietness and are taciturn in their conversations. Western society, on the other hand, opens their mouths without a doubt! Uncomfortable with silence, we will clutter the atmosphere of our stillness with idle chatter.

Our heart is a sacred place. When evil thoughts and desires take up residence there, the condition of our life is deplorable. Jesus taught us what we allow to reside in our hearts will eventually proceed out of our mouths. Wise believers let their words be few. The less you say, the more your words take on meaning. The doors of our lips should remain shut so we will sin less. If we allow our hearts to back up with garbage, the gates of our mouths will push open to gush out corruption.

Think more and talk less. Evaluate the purity of your thinking. Invite the King of Glory to come into your soul. He will war against wicked imaginations and perspectives of life that have held sway over your actions. Take authority over your gates and the doors of your life in the power of the Holy Spirit. The fear of the Lord should be at every doorpost and gateway of both your thinking and your speech. Beloved, wake up to what the devil is up to in your life and be on guard! Boot him out before he has an opportunity to put his foot into your mouth.
