Relationships Determine Happiness
…. love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you
(John 15:12).
Harvard’s Grant and Glueck longitudinal study of 724 participants over 75 years revealed that the building of quality relationships would determine how healthy and happy your life will be. The clear message that the research uncovered should be no surprise to followers of Jesus Christ. Your kinship with Jesus is the first relationship in your life that needs cultivation. He is your first love, and because you love Him, you will be able to love others as He loves you.
Roots of bitterness in our life from past wounds and traumas sour our perspective on life, and many relationships suffer damage because of them. The poison of shame and guilt can extend from our hearts to defile the closest people we know. Often our spouses and children take the brunt of past pain.
What is the antidote for the bitter poison we may lodge in our hearts? Jesus declared, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.” Apostle Paul said, Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness”.
The secret of happiness is a holy life shared with Jesus as your Lord and closest companion. His love will flow through you and turn the bitterness to sweet. The blessings you receive from Him will make you forget the setbacks of your past. Your words and actions will show it, and your thankful heart will bring smiles to many. The quality of your relationship with Christ determines the quality of all other relationships.
