Patched Up or Made New?
Who would patch old clothing with new cloth? For the new patch would shrink and rip away from the old cloth, leaving an even bigger tear than before (Mark 2:21 NLT).
Jesus is your true source. He is pure, meek, and lowly. The burden He asks you to carry is light. It is easy to bear because He shoulders it with you. He is your partner to carry out his purposes for creating you. You are so much more than you think you are. You can expand your thinking by going beyond your mind. Jesus demands your life so you can find His presence. The real person you are can only arise in Jesus Christ. Surrendering your life to Him is of the most importance. He will show you who you are, the person God created you to be.
When you meet Christ, you meet your new man. He is the new creation of the person you are in Christ. The old person you have come to know all too well must diminish so the new man can take over. Your new nature is not an addition to your old nature. If you believe you can take from the new to patch up the old, your life will be miserable. You will have no peace and will not understand why you have no joy or the abundant life Jesus promised to give you.
The new nature is the mind of Christ, which receives counsel only from the Holy Spirit. Your old thinking can't operate in the mind of Christ. Jesus is the companion of the new man, not of the former. Who do you most identify with, your new nature in Christ or your old nature in Adam? To be like Christ, we must look unto Him. We must throw off the past to put on the now. Your real source awaits you. Your true self will come to Him, behold Him, and become like Him.
