The Old Man or New, Which One Is You?

…put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt… put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness (Eph. 4:22-23 NKJV).

If you follow Christ and know you are precious to God how are you fulfilling his purposes on earth? If you know you are a sent one you can accomplish what God has placed in your heart to do. If you are aimless in your pursuit of God evaluate where you are in the faith. Every believer will either walk in the old man or in Christ, the new man. The old man characterizes your former attitudes and influences before you surrendered to Christ. The new man is your identity in Christ. God anoints the new man not the old man. His purposes are found not in the old man but the new.

The old man grabs the lie and will tear your faith in Christ down. He works from within and always accuses. He likes to compare himself with others and he focuses his concerns on himself. He is angry and impatient. He will only grow worse and worse. He is corrupt and will never trust the love of God. He thrives on deception. If you continually yield to the old man your destiny in Christ will be lost.

You must actively put off the old man and put on the new. No one can do this for you not even God. You must choose what your attitudes and influences will be. The new man connects with God the old man cannot. Trust the Lord that He is at work in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Surrender yourself to God and tell the old man where to get off!
