God’s Name Written All Over It

What’s in a name? Everything if you ask God.

On their way out of Egypt with Moses as their leader, the Israelites got a taste of authentic freedom. They soon discovered that liberty had more to do with their mindset than their physical condition. God miraculously parted the Red Sea delivering them from certain death, but afterward, troubled waters faced them again. Tired and thirsty they came to the springs of Marah and seeing their reflection therein they found it too bitter to drink. The Sea of Bitterness has no bounds, but neither does the love of God. It was at Marah that God first called Himself Jehovah Rapha revealing Himself as the God who heals, more precisely as “healing is what I am.”

Sorrow, disappointment, betrayal can embitter people. To name the name of Marah will surely bring pain and sickness into our lives. To know this God named Jehovah Rapha will remove it. God can heal our sin, our wounds, and broken hearts. Jesus, our healer, awaits us. Jesus, our Lord, calls us to Himself. May we come asking.
