Talk to Yourself
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God (Ps. 43:5).
Are you crazy if you talk to yourself? Science aligns with the word of God and says that it is helpful. When you speak to yourself, you focus your attention on what you are thinking or on your emotions. David, the psalmist, often encouraged himself by telling his soul to hope in God because He is trustworthy. When he was heavy, he told his soul to bless the Lord. He would redirect his heart to have faith in God and to get ready to praise Him.
Jesus taught us to look at life through the eye of light. He also told us to believe in Him and not to allow our hearts to be troubled. Your born-again spirit has the capability to overrule your feelings and thoughts by bringing them in line with God’s higher ways and thoughts. Meditate daily on God’s word and fill your heart with His goodness. What is in your heart will overflow into how you see life. Soak in God’s love for you. Tell your soul daily that God is for you and not against you. Correct your mind when it goes awry to bring it under the rule of the Holy Sprit. When you are afraid, speak to your soul and say, “Trust in the Lord.”
We all can find ourselves in places void of joy. Jesus told us to cheer up because He has overcome the world. Be your biggest cheerleader by reminding yourself daily of His grace, which is sufficient for you! Abide in His Word, and you will live in His joy. Make a habit of this, and you will experience the calm and well-balanced mind that God has given you through Christ Jesus your Lord.
