The Heart and the Tongue Connection

Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had, who wrote in Scripture, “I believed, therefore I spoke.” We also believe, therefore we also speak…16 …therefore we do not become discouraged (2Cor. 4:13-16).

We read in Matthew 12:36-37 Jesus’ firm admonition concerning our speech: "But l say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the day of judgment. "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned." The way our life turns out agrees with the words we speak. You cannot separate faith from words.

Examine the careless speech of people as well as your own. What do you say about others and what do you think about yourself? Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Sooner or later what we believe about our circumstances and ourselves will come out of our lips. If you think that “life is not fair” your life in the end will prove it right. If you believe God gives you an abundant life in Christ that too will be evident.

Apostle Paul remembered the words of the psalmist when he penned, “Since we have the same spirit of faith…we also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). When we walk in the spirit, we all have the same spirit of faith. Our language and how we see things line up with God’s word. Our lives show we are overcomers through faith and our words explain it all.
