The Light and the Blood

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin

(1 John 1:7).

God hates mixture. Holiness is separation. The Spirit of the Holy dwells in everyone who is born again. He births within you a desire to be holy even as God is holy. Your life enters a process, which produces trials and afflictions to sift you like wheat. Though alarming at first, welcome this development for its course is to bring purification. The Lord will orchestrate circumstances for you to stand against evil instead of pleasing man in the place of God. You will have to walk in faith at every turn and as you do this the light of God will show you the way and will also define clearly what you’re to keep in life and what you need to let go.

God is light. Nothing swallows up the darkness like the light. The light of God’s word will point out every stain in you that darkness desires to hide. Every lie you believe God will spotlight. Every hidden sin in you will find an outlet for exposure. Your pride will come down and your pretense will cease and in the midst of the pain you will rejoice. The light of God in people will reproach secret thoughts and activities that have no place in you now that you belong to God.

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. Walking with God has only one destination, a place called holiness. The shame of sin no longer has a hold over you in His light. You see it fully and confess it without reserve and in doing so the blood of Jesus cleanses you from all unrighteous. In the original Greek text, the tense for the word “cleanses” conveys a current continuous action. This means that once you are born-again, the blood of Jesus Christ keeps on cleansing you from every hidden sin making the light of God in you brighter and brighter. The brightness of His glory will be evident in you repelling every form of evil. You become, as Jesus is, the light to the world, a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hid.
