A Walk of Life

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, Col. 2:6

On a dreary, cold day in March of 1912 Austin Miles, a former pharmacist turned music publisher, had a vision of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene at the tomb of His resurrection. Immediately by the unction of the Holy Spirit and in a matter of hours, he penned the lyrics and composed the music of the famous hymn, In the Garden. The tender refrain “He walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own” is still sung today in one of America’s most famous hymns. In spite of its popularity, many criticize the song’s lyrics as over-romanticizing one’s relationship with God with its familiar overtones.

Jesus walked with His disciples. He communed with them and taught them along their many journeys. To walk with God is such a privilege but how can this be with you and I in this present life? 1 Cor. 6:17 says, “But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.” This type of relationship is a miracle, only possible through Christ revealing Himself to you. Have you in a moment of quiet desperation, in godly sorrow and repentance, called out on his name to save you? You must not depend on religious indoctrination, as your ticket to heaven. A belief system is incapable of loving you. To believe something is true is not the same thing as trusting someone you know.

Has God the Father walked you down the aisle to meet your Bridegroom, Jesus? If so, you have a walking partner in life and One who will lead you eternally.
