Holy Terror
Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences-
(2 Cor. 5:11).
We live in a world of terror. Workplaces are now scenes of carnage; school massacres and even church sanctuaries are not immune from atrocities. Hate flourishes in the world because the love of many grows cold.
The spirit of fear is tormenting. The devil takes particular pleasure in the suffering of human beings. Scripture tells us that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one. The Christian, “a little Christ” lives in the world but he is not of the world. He has found a place of rest and safety in the midst of strife. In fact, the authentic Christian becomes a “holy terror” to those who carry out the nefarious plans of their father, the devil; for only the terror of the Lord released upon the most hardened heart will open its prison doors.
Sin comes with a huge price tag that wrecks homes and innocent bystanders. It is behind drugs, alcohol, greed, sexual immorality, violence and an absence of accountability to God and His people. The spirit of the fear of the Lord, unlike the devil's counterfeit, brings people out of darkness into light and to the awesome reality of God and His eternal purposes. Live your life in all holiness and fear of God to testify that Christ lives in you. Speak the truth in love and never white -wash sin. Such a life has the hope of pulling sinners out of the fire of hell and into the all-consuming cleansing fire of God.
